{"id":8425,"date":"2024-05-13T08:29:47","date_gmt":"2024-05-13T06:29:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autoschrauber.de\/know-how\/press-piston-out-of-brake-caliper\/"},"modified":"2024-08-20T15:27:03","modified_gmt":"2024-08-20T13:27:03","slug":"press-piston-out-of-brake-caliper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/autoschrauber.de\/en\/know-how-en\/brakes-and-chassis\/brakes\/press-piston-out-of-brake-caliper\/","title":{"rendered":"Press piston out of brake caliper"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"gb-container gb-container-66a27c20 as-text-image-content-container\"><div class=\"gb-inside-container\">\n\n<h2 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-87c006cd gb-headline-text\">Pressing pistons out of the saddle<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"gb-grid-wrapper gb-grid-wrapper-126a39b1 AS-text-image-chapter-part-content\">\n<div class=\"gb-grid-column gb-grid-column-fd8e78c8\"><div class=\"gb-container gb-container-fd8e78c8\"><div class=\"gb-inside-container\">\n\n<p>Anyone who wants to undertake the honorable work of<a href=\"https:\/\/autoschrauber.de\/en\/know-how-en\/brakes-and-chassis\/brakes\/repairing-the-brake-caliper\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2317\"> repairing<\/a> a<a href=\"https:\/\/autoschrauber.de\/en\/know-how-en\/brakes-and-chassis\/brakes\/repairing-the-brake-caliper\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2317\"> brake caliper<\/a><em> <\/em>must remove the piston from the saddle.\nOn some models, this can be done almost automatically with a pair of water pump pliers.\nOn the vast majority, however, it does not: in this case, the driver has understood &#8220;maintenance&#8221; to mean very long &#8220;servicing&#8221; and replaced the brake fluid 10 or more years ago.\nThe piston is then caked in the brake calliper and can only be coaxed out of its rusty bed by force.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This force is typically applied by the fine man using compressed air<em> <\/em>so that the piston -flopp!- jumps out of the cylinder. During this procedure, the dust protection sleeve of the caliper usually remains intact and can be reused (if the repair kit has annoyingly been ordered incorrectly again). How do you get pressure onto the piston surface? After all, each of these greasy things contains a small hydraulic plunger that presses the grease from the cartridge into the hydraulic hose. and use it in years to come for the ball of the trailer coupling, for example.
